Between us we enjoyed three delicious, hearty breakfasts of various food items, cheese, eggs, bacon, sausage, cooked meats, fresh bread rolls, croissants, preserves, salad, fruit and the most delicious coffee, with hot chocolate for the little'un. Total bill was amazingly just under 12 euros (about £10) and we'd eaten enough for lunch!
The Maelzer has it's own brewery with the shining copper vats in the centre of the restaurant.
I love the cosy little rooms inside and this counter which is from an old apothecary.
The gluehwein stalls were already open in the mornings!
The market by night.....
Carols playing adds to the atmosphere....
Huge hand painted glass baubles...
Day time sunshine glowed on the gabled roof tops...
Couldn't miss these gallant swains hanging around at the mediaeval market.
At night the Rathaus is lit so effectively with projected pictures
Shame I'll have to wait another year to see it all again but it is lovely to see it here as it really puts me in a festive mood and I hope it does the same for you!.
If you want another, really different, German Christmas Market tour pop over to Neet's blog, hickydorums, where she has been posting her trip to Berlin.
More gorgeous photos of your happy time in Germany. Thanks for sharing them Jo.

Will visit Neet too. This makes me sort of homesick for Christmases past when we lived in various parts of Germany. Super pics.
ReplyDeleteYes it certainly makes me feel festive - I think it might call for a small sherry for fun day Monday!!! x Jo

ReplyDeleteFabby photos, Jo, thanks for sharing. Bet you had a brilliant time. Lx
ReplyDeleteYes, that's definitely got me in a Christmas mood, especially those beautiful baubles. Love the copper still - but wouldn't like to clean it. How many tins of Brasso would that take?

ReplyDeleteOh what a lovely experience that must have been - I will show pictures of our market soon when I get round to going to the city - I had a bad cold but I am better now so will be "knocking" on your skype!
ReplyDeleteLots of hugs,

That looks like so much fun! I would love the markets! And I'll bet the beer is wonderful at the place you had breakfast. It looks like a spot to have breakfast and then come back later for dinner :)
ReplyDeleteMore lovely pics Jo, that breakfast sounds wonderful value for the money. I wouldn't mind that cabinet in my craft room but I might have to fight you for it I'm guessing!!

Gorgeous and interesting pics! For some reason the pictures of the WOYWW post did not show itself to me and I really want to see your new angels. I'll be baaaack! Patsy
ReplyDeleteMore fabby photos - what a wonderful time you had. If I'd been there I know my camera would never have stopped clicking.
ReplyDeleteThe pic of the apothecary counter reminds me of a wonderful cafe we often visit in Newton Abbot - The Old Pharmacy. All the original fittings are still in place, including banks of little drawers like this, all labelled with such things as "Opium" and "Nux Vomica" lol! The handles are cut glass. The windows of the shop are curved glass around the original entrance (sadly no carboys in the windows now) and the display cabinets are now filled with antique and collectors' teapots. It's like an Aladdin's cave and I adore going in there! (The food and coffee are good, too!) Must go in and take some photos sometime.

Aw, thanks for the plug Jo. Very different from your market (love the swains lol) which I love the look of. The town hall is particularly beautiful and I love the pictures projected onto it.
ReplyDeleteYour coffee shop looks adorable and I can imagine the three girls all sat there enjoying the breakfast food.
Hugs, Neet xx
