First I must let my excitement loose! I'm so thrilled this week to be the invited guest artist to set the challenge for TAG IT ON.....check out the button on my side bar... it should be up later today. Why not get creative and enter the challenge....for the winner there's a great prize, generously donated by Caz of Stampattack, of this new plate, "Elements of the Orient", which I recently designed for them.WOYWW 75
Another week has wizzed by and here we are again spying on the desks of crafters all over the world, courtesy of Julia's blog Stamping Ground so pop over there and join in the fun.
My mess isn't a mess, really it isn't, it really, really isn't..... it's work in progress as I'm experimenting with alcohol inks on acetate to obtain the desired effect for my special project. As you can see by the mug from the fabulous Baltic Trader shop in Lewes... I am feeling dotty but I'm getting there and you will see the results further down so trust me! That's NOT a puddle of ink by the bottles... it's on acetate! I will clean up PROMISE!
On Saturday at Victoria Stampers workshop I gave everyone a print out of my Peace Dove to cut out and Ann cleverly came up with the idea of a stained glass window behind it. I've experimented with all manner of paints and inks and Alcohol Inks have worked best by far.
Here are some of the results.....
I dropped the AI onto the acetate allowing the drops to spread into each other. Too much went muddy, as in pic above and too little wasn't strong enough.
Below, in these three pieces, you can see the effect to aim for. Note... I didn't need to use Blending Fluid as it made the drops spread too much. If any areas did not spread I gave a nudge with a paint brush!
Here's a scan of the Dove of Peace and a Nativity scene, that you can hopefully print out, if you'd like to make some for yourselves. They look fabulous hanging on fine thread in a window or near a light.
Health and Safety Warning !!! Beware that the cut outs should not be placed near a naked flame or too near a light bulb in case they catch fire.
It looks far more fiddly to do than it is but you can cut out at least 3 at a time in copy paper. I stick a little Pritt Stick round the edges to keep the 3 layers of paper together whilst I cut. The outer edges can be cut out with pinking shears or scalloped edge trimmers. If you cannot print it out well enough just email me and I'll send you a scan as an attachment.
When the paper was cut out (I used fine scissors as it is too fiddly for a craft knife) I sandwiched the filigree shape between a piece of coloured acetate and a piece of clear acetate.
To close on a high...I must crow about my luck! I was so thrilled this week to win the Blog Candy prize so generously donated by WOYWWer Ciara. Thanks again Ciara! See just how lucky I am in the pic above...and one of those gorgeous Prima Flowers has gone to trim a design entry for TIO... Don't forget to enter and you too could be lucky and win that plate of stamps from Stampattack.
Those stamps are FANTASTIC, love your fllowers.!

Hi Jo
ReplyDeleteYour stained glass work is beautiful
It just goes to show that we should persevere with alcohol inks, even if like me, they are tricky to handle.

It's bad enough that I am running nearly a week late, then I have been plagued with that pesky 503 error all night. I really like what you did with the AIs. And congrats on winning Ciara's giveaway. Hope all is well with you. I think I'm going to try the same technique using Staz-on and rubbing alcohol.
